 BRAIN FACTS


  • The human brain is the largest brain of all vertebrates relative to body size
  • It weighs about 3.3 lbs. (1.5 kilograms
  • The brain makes up about 2 percent of human's body weight.
  • The cerebrum makes up about 85 percent of the brain's weight
  • It contains about about 86 million nerve cells (neurons) - the "gray matter"
  • It contains billions of nerve fibers (axons and dendrites0 - the "white matter"
  • These neurons are connected by trillions of connections, or synapses.

  • Your adult heart beats about 100,000 times each day.

  • Doctors have yet to find a way to transplant an eyeball. The optic nerve that connects the eye to the brain is too sensitive to reconstruct successfully.

    • There are at least 14 different nose types found in humans. 
    • Positions of lower and upper lateral cartilages and nasal bones actually define nose shape.
    • During sneezing, irritants (that cause sneezing) are expelled at a speed of 100 miles per hour.
    • In women, nose grows until the age of 15 to 17 and for men, it is 17 to 19.
    • Different people have different sneezing styles and these styles are genetically determined. So, the members of a given family will have similar sneezing styles which will be different than the sneezing styles of other families.

    • Lips are 100 times more sensitive than your finger tips.
    • The lips dry so fast because there are no sweat glands around the area.
    • Everyone's lip mark is unique.
    • The lips seem pink due to the blood veins in them.
    • Our lips lose their plumpness over the years.
    • Science claims that kissing allows a biological information exchange and lets you take in the pheromones of your partner.
